To customers purchasing Student Railway Pass

Purchasable interval for Student Railway Pass

A Student Railway Pass can be purchased for the interval between the station nearest to the house of the student and the station nearest to the school. The station nearest to the school is determined for every school and cannot be changed to any other. Also, in cases where station nearest to the house is changed due to moving into another house, etc., the correction has to be made by a school representative and sealed with the representative's or school’s seal.

  • *Note: Club activities or preparatory schools do not constitute a reason for purchase of a student pass for any other sections.
(For these cases please purchase a Commuter Railway Pass)

Documents required when purchasing Student Railway Pass

Please visit a pass office when purchasing a Student Railway Pass, as it is necessary to submit one of the following documents.

  • A certificate of student registration issued by the same representative and sealed with the representative's or the school's seal.
  • A student identification card issued by the representative of the school of enrollment and sealed with the representative's or the school's seal.
  • *Note1: The term of validity for a certificate of student registration is one month from the date of issuance.
  • *Note2: The photograph for a certificate also usable for purchase of Student Railway Pass (student identification card) is not necessary during the period of one month from the date of issuance of the certificate.
  • *Note3: A photograph is not necessary for the documents of 3rd grade junior high school students and below or children and infants.

Also if an old Student Railway Pass purchased within the same academic year can be shown during the purchase of the new one, submitting documents is not necessary. (Excluding the cases when there is a change in the interval, or when the term of validity ends later than April 30.)

Refunds

When refunding a valid railway pass, the number of months used will be deducted from the original purchase price of the pass, along with a 220 yen handling fee. You will be required to show identification when requesting a refund.

As railway passes are issued in one-month periods, refunds for the unused portion of a pass will also be refunded based on the number of FULL months remaining. For example, if you have used one month and one day of a 3-month pass, a full two months' fare will be deducted, in addition to a 220 yen handling fee. The refund calculation method is as follows:

Period Used Amount Refunded
1 month Pass fare − (1 month fare + handling fee)
2 months Pass fare − [(1 month fare × 2) + handling fee]
3 months Pass fare − (3 month fare + handling fee)
4 months Pass fare − (3 month fare + 1 month fare + handling fee)
5 months Pass fare − [3 month fare + (1 month fare × 2) + handling fee]
  • *Note1: The following calculation method is used when refunding a pass within 7 days of its taking effect.
Pass fare − [(Regular round trip ticket fare × number of days) + handling fee 220 yen] = Refund
  • *Note2: When refunding Pass purchased with credit card, the same credit card is required.
  • *Note3: When refunding your pass, please bring your identification (Driver's License, passport, insurance card, student ID card, etc.) with you.
If you or someone else is refunding for the proxy, please bring a letter of proxy and a copy of the proxy's identification, along with your (the person going instead of the proxy) own form of identification (passport, Japanese driver's license, etc.).
If the railway pass is being purchased with a credit card, a person other than the registered person may not purchase it. This is due to a contract agreement made with the credit card company which does not allow other people (including family members) to make the purchase.

Traveling further than your fare allows

In cases when a passenger has ridden further than the interval displayed on the pass, a regular passenger fare for the excessive interval traveled shall be paid.

Changes of commuting interval

Please buy a new pass for the interval of your choice and we shall refund the old unnecessary pass as follows.

Refund amount = regular passenger fare – [fare used during 10 days (period under 10 days will also be treated as such) + refund fee of 220 yen]

  • *Note: The following periods are considered as 10 days.
    • January 10 to January 19
    • February 25 to March 4
    • August 25 to September 4
