Aiming to Develop New Businesses

We aim to enhance customer satisfaction by actively developing businesses that effectively utilize the space within station premises and otherwise idle land.

Real Estate Operations

We have put the space around stations to effective use by developing office buildings, hotels, housing (both general housing and student accommodation), and a golf driving range in various Tokyo locations. In conjunction with Tokyu Corporation and Keio Corporation, we manage Shibuya Market City, an integrated office, hotel and commercial facility located in Shibuya. In April 2008, we also opened the integrated hotel, residential and commercial facility AOYAMA M'S TOWER, located in Minami-aoyama, which was jointly developed by Tokyo Metro and Subway Building Co., Ltd, one of our group companies. We are continuing to develop future real estate opportunities.

Leasing Business

Tokyo Metro is expanding the station building business, in other words, buildings above ground which are directly connected to the stations, as part of the leasing business. Examples are ‘Metro M Korakuen’ at Korakuen station on the Marunouchi and Namboku lines and ‘BelleVie Akasaka’ at Akasaka-mitsuke station on the Ginza and Marunouchi lines.
A variety of new types of convenient, user-friendly commercial facilities are being developed in the stations for our customers, such as ‘Echika’, which is integrated development of the station as part of large-scale renovation, ‘Echikafit’, a mid-sized shopping block, and ‘METROPIA’, stand-alone shops.
In addition to this, to respond to commuter ticket payments and the automatic charge service introduced for the transport IC card, PASMO, Tokyo Metro introduced the ‘Tokyo Metro To Me CARD PASMO’ in March 2008 which combines the functions of the ‘Tokyo Metro To Me CARD’ (credit card) introduced in February 2007 and PASMO.

IT Business

We promote rental of optical fibers - the basis for the next-generation information network - that we have installed throughout the subway network. As an added benefit, wireless LAN services have been installed at 175 locations Tokyo Metro stations.

Advertising Business

Our hanging posters inside trains and wall posters inside subway stations are used by many corporate clients due to their high visibility. We also make available a variety of other advertising media such as “column-wrapping ads” and “free-magazine racks.”

On-site Sales

Headed up by the METRO'S, we also install vending machines, coin lockers, and ATMs, etc. to further enhance customer convenience within the station premises.
