Tokyo Metro has been awarded "Technical Assistance Project on Railway Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Development"
Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Taito ward, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Kosaka; hereinafter referred to as "Tokyo Metro"), together with Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku ward, Tokyo; President: Eiji Yonezawa) and Almec Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku ward, Tokyo; President: Tetsuji Masujima) has been awarded for the " Technical Assistance Project on Railway Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Development" from Japan International Cooperation Agency (hereinafter referred to as "JICA") and will commence the work.
While the population in Metro Manila is growing and becoming increasingly overcrowded, the development of rail-based public transportation as a means of mass transportation is lagging behind, and most travel relies on road transportation, resulting in major problems such as economic losses due to congestion and air pollution. In addition to the development of new railway lines such as the Metro Manila Subway and the North-South Commuter Railway, JICA implemented the "Technical Assistance Project to Establish Philippines Railway Institute" (hereinafter referred to as "PRI-TA") from 2018 to 2024, providing support to continuously develop high-quality railway human resources who will be responsible for appropriate operation and maintenance. In 2019, the Philippine Railway Institute (hereinafter referred to as "PRI") was established as an organization within the Department of Transportation (hereinafter referred to as "DOTr"). Through our participation in PRI-TA, we have provided support for the formulation of basic training plans and teaching materials common to all railway operators.
PRI has recently requested the Japanese government to provide support in the areas of strengthening training in more specialized technical fields and for management positions that meet the needs of railway operators; improving the efficiency of training by utilizing DX technology; and establishing a PRI certification system for the training provided by each railway operator.
In this project, Tokyo Metro will utilize its 100 years of experience in urban railway operations and its experience in supporting PRI-TA to realize a highly convenient urban railway, striving to contribute to the sustainable development of Metro Manila and strengthen friendly relations between Japan and the Philippines.
