Purchasing a Student/Commuter Railway Pass

Purchasing a new pass:
You may purchase your new pass up to 7 days before you want it to start.

Renewing your pass:
You may purchase a renewed pass up to 14 days before it is to take effect.
You may also purchase a renewal pass at any Student/Commuter Railway Pass machine.

Refunds

When refunding a valid railway pass, the number of months used will be deducted from the original purchase price of the pass, along with a ¥210 handling fee. You will be required to produce identification when requesting a refund.

As Railway Passes are issued in one-month increments, refunds for the unused portion of a pass will also be refunded based on the number of FULL months remaining. For example, if you have used one month and one day of a 3-month pass, a full two months' fare will be deducted, in addition to a ¥210 handling fee. The refund calculation method is as follows:

Period Used Amount Refunded
1 month Pass fare - (1 month fare + handling fee)
2 months Pass fare - ((1 month fare × 2) + handling fee)
3 months Pass fare - (3 month fare + handling fee)
4 months Pass fare - (3 month fare + 1 month fare + handling fee)
5 months Pass fare - (3 month fare + (1 month fare × 2) + handling fee)

The following calculation method is used when refunding a pass within 7 days of its taking effect.

Pass fare - ((regular round trip ticket fare × number of days) + handling fee 210 yen) = Refund

When there is no Pass Office at your local station

Purchase a regular ticket for a Tokyo Metro line and use it to take a train to the nearest station with a Pass Office. Purchase your pass there.

Traveling to the Pass Office
This method of traveling to the Pass Office by using a regular ticket valid on the Tokyo Metro system is ideal for persons wanting to purchase a Student/Commuter Railway Pass and for those wishing to receive a refund.
Please note that this does not apply to purchases made at Nakano, Nishi-funabashi and Ayase stations.

Getting there
After purchasing a ticket for the journey to the nearest Pass Office, tell fare gate attendant you are planning to purchase/refund a Commuter Pass. The attendant will mark this on your ticket.
Give the marked ticket to the attendant at the Pass Office when purchasing/refunding your pass to receive a return ticket. (Please use this ticket at a manned fare gate when leaving the station with a Pass Office.)

Returning to your station
When purchasing a pass or receiving a refund at a Pass Office, ask the attendant for a ride voucher ("josha-sho") for your return journey.
