Formulating Tokyo Metro's Medium-Term Business Plan

The Tokyo Metro Group began operations in 2004 as a provider of public transport and now plays a central role in the railway network for the Tokyo metropolitan area. The group engages in a variety of business activities, mainly within the railway industry, as it seeks to support the economic activities and daily lives of the people of Tokyo, with our group philosophy of "Keeping Tokyo on the Move" in mind.

If we reflect on the business environment over recent years, we can expect to some trends to continue, such as the number of people concentrating in Tokyo, as well the number of overseas visitors, increasing. However, we also anticipate that it will become necessary to respond to the devastating effects of natural disasters, and, in the long-term, we expect to see the rapid decrease in the population of Tokyo's wards, in particular of the working age population, impact us in terms of a decreasing number of rail users and labor shortages.
Meanwhile, we are entering an era of workstyle reforms, new trends such as an increasing number of people working from home, as well as various technological innovations such as AI, big data and IoT. Furthermore, in terms of mobility-related activities, there is a growing movement toward new mobility services.

As we sit here on the cusp of a major turning point in our society, we have moved forward in the formulation of a new Medium-Term Business Plan titled the Tokyo Metro Plan 2021, through which we hope to realize our group philosophy of "Keeping Tokyo on the Move," while also contributing to solutions to a variety of social issues targeted as SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
Based upon the various factors relevant to the Tokyo Metro Group, we have set the three keywords of "Providing Peace of Mind," "Achieving Sustainable Growth" and "Collaborating to Enhance the Appeal and Vitality of Tokyo" as pillars for all our initiatives, which we will tackle and push forward with positivity and a strong desire to succeed.
In particular, as an official partner (passenger rail transportation service) of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, which will be held during the enactment time for this plan, we will respond to expectations to deliver on important infrastructure for the host city, helping ensure smooth transit during the event and contributing toward a successful games. Beyond the games, we will continue to contribute to the development of Tokyo by stepping up efforts for a variety of measures, building a legacy that will be inherited by the city itself and by the Tokyo Metro Group.

In addition to strengthening our efforts in these activities, we are also aiming to list shares as early as possible with an eye toward full privatization in the near future.

Going forward, the Tokyo Metro Group aims to enhance its sustainable corporate value by delivering on a number of policies and measures, as we look to be the premier railway company that is trusted, selected and supported by all our stakeholders.

We look forward to your continued understanding and support.
