To date, the Tokyo Metro Group has grown primarily through its Railway Business, but going forward, we aim to continue to be the company of choice by meeting the diverse needs of our customers, including through our Urban Design and Lifestyle Creation Business. In light of the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to come up with "answers" simply by extrapolating from past experience, we aim to be an organization that is not simply a place where "superiors make decisions based on their experience and subordinates carry them out" but also one where "diverse employees acknowledge each other, share ideas, and work to improve themselves by competing with each other to continue to create greater value."
We will continue to promote DE&I to achieve our organizational vision. To meet the diverse needs of our customers and secure human resources, we welcome diverse talent into our organization and provide an environment and opportunities that take into consideration the circumstances and characteristics of each individual employee, thereby fostering a corporate culture in which all employees can maximize their capabilities. Such a culture will improve engagement and innovation and lead to the creation of new value. In May 2023 we established a DE&I Promotion Committee, chaired by the executive officer in charge of the Human Resources Department, to provide a forum for discussing and reporting matters related to the promotion of DE&I. In August that year, we formulated our DE&I Declaration to accelerate various initiatives to promote DE&I, including the active participation of women.
In promoting human capital management, we have defined our "Ideal Employee" (one that embodies "autonomy," "challenge," and "collaboration"). This definition clarifies the type of personnel needed to realize our management strategy and it is at the core of our human resources strategy.
For personnel to embody the "Ideal Employee," leaders need to provide greater peace of mind to members and teams and encourage their qualities of autonomy, challenge, and collaboration. The reason for this is that when members and teams have greater peace of mind, they feel more comfortable about expressing their opinions and acting without fear of the reactions of those around them. To achieve this, we will first base our work on providing greater peace of mind, and then support employees in embodying autonomy, challenge, and collaboration. This type of leadership is essential to achieving DE&I in individual organizations, and we believe that it will promote members' capacity for autonomy, challenge, and collaboration, and creating results through teamwork.
